Britain leaving the EU does not make it difficult for Vietnamese tourists

June 29, 2016 06:29

The whole world seemed to be shocked when on June 23, the Chairman of the United Kingdom's Electoral Commission officially announced that the number of people supporting Britain leaving the European Union (EU) was 17.4 million, 4% higher than the 16.1 million people who chose to stay in the bloc.

As soon as this information was announced, the global stock market became chaotic, the pound lost its most value in more than 30 years. However, these two issues are predicted to be just the beginning of a series of upcoming events that can take place in all aspects of life - economy - finance - culture, even the tourism industry in the UK.

Sharing with Zing.vn, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hai, Director of Foreign Tourism Market of Fiditour, commented: "The UK's exit from the EU may have a significant impact on the development of the tourism market in this country. Airfares to the UK will be higher when there are no more aviation agreements. Preferential fees between the UK and the EU have changed, so higher prices may have to be applied. Travel between the UK and the EU also faces many difficulties in terms of security."

However, he also shared that the UK leaving the EU could cause the pound to lose value. This would help reduce living and accommodation costs for tourists traveling to the UK - one of the most expensive countries in the world.

He said that the UK's departure from the EU will not affect the visa application process for tourists coming to this country. The reason is that the UK is not part of the Schengen visa area. Up to now, when traveling to the UK or to European countries with the UK in the itinerary, Vietnamese tourists have to apply for a visa at the British Embassy or Consulate.

According to statistics from travel companies, the UK is one of the relatively popular tourist markets in Europe, but in the past 3 years, the number of Vietnamese tourists registering for tours to the country has only increased slightly. The destinations that Vietnamese tourists love are also famous and familiar cities such as the capital London with Big Ben, the Royal Palace, London Tower Bridge, the giant Ferris wheel...; the city of Manchester - where tourists experience the feeling of living in the passionate football atmosphere at Old Trafford Stadium, the holy land of Manchester United. In addition, the beautiful country of Wales with many interesting things is also chosen by many tourists to visit.
