Tropical depression strengthens into storm number 7
(Baonghean.vn) - The tropical depression in the East Sea has strengthened into storm number 7, internationally named LIONROCK, with strong winds of level 8, gusting to level 10.
The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that early this morning, the tropical depression had strengthened into storm number 7, internationally named LIONROCK.
At 1:00 a.m. today, the storm center was located at about 17.4 degrees North latitude and 111.0 degrees East longitude, right on the sea northwest of the Hoang Sa archipelago. Near the storm center, the strongest wind is at level 8, from 60 - 75 km/h, gusting to level 10. Accordingly, the sea area with strong winds from level 6, gusting to level 8 or higher has a radius of about 120 km from the storm center.

In the next 24 hours, the storm is forecast to move mainly in a north-northwest direction, traveling about 10 km per hour and is likely to strengthen. At 1:00 a.m. on October 9, the storm center was at about 18.9 degrees north latitude and 110.5 degrees east longitude, right in the southeast of Hainan Island (China). The strongest winds near the storm center are at level 8-9, from 60-90 km/h, gusting to level 11.
The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting warns that the dangerous area in the East Sea in the next 24 hours with strong winds of level 6 or higher, gusting from level 8 or higher is from latitude 16.5 - 21.0 degrees North; from longitude 108.0 - 113.0 degrees East. Accordingly, all ships operating in the dangerous area are at high risk of being affected by strong winds and big waves.
In the next 24 to 48 hours, the storm will continue to move in a West-Northwest direction, traveling about 10 km per hour. After that, storm No. 7 will enter the Gulf of Tonkin. At 1:00 a.m. on October 10, the storm center was at about 19.7 degrees North latitude and 108.4 degrees East longitude, about 120 km southeast of Bach Long Vi island district (Hai Phong).
