(Baonghean.vn) - Obviously, the goals of qualifying for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, going deep into the 2020 World Cup qualifiers and winning the 2020 AFF Cup are the big tasks facing Mr. Park and his students.

After 2 championships of AFF Cup and SEA Games, 2020 is considered a springboard for Vietnamese football to achieve other goals. It seems that VFF and Mr. Park have prepared in detail for the plan to upgrade Vietnamese football.

Near target

Right after winning the SEA Games 30 championship, Mr. Park had to lead his team to train in Korea to prepare for the U23 Asian Cup, where there are 3 places to attend the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Although they are the current runner-up, U23 Vietnam determined that this will not be a simple goal.

The U23 continental level competition is considered to be much more difficult than the SEA Games. Especially when we can no longer maintain the element of surprise like 2 years ago in Changzhou (China) and there are only 7 warriors left in Thailand.

In the second qualifying round of the 2020 World Cup in Asia, we will meet Malaysia, Indonesia, and UAE. Although we are currently leading Group G with 11 points, to advance to the third round, Mr. Park and his team need 7 more points. Things are not simple when our two opponents, Indonesia and UAE, have both changed their head coaches. The UAE team will play their final match at home against Vietnam.

As the reigning champions, Quang Hai and his teammates will have to defend their No. 1 position in Southeast Asia. At this time, defeating the champion is the goal of any team.

Our biggest rival is still Thailand, the team that we were tied with after 2 matches in the 2nd qualifying round of the 2020 World Cup in Asia. Besides, teams like Malaysia and Indonesia have shown that they have a generation of young players who are constantly improving.

Talking about the future of Vietnamese football, the talented Korean coach shared: "I can only bring Vietnamese football to win the Southeast Asian championship and the youth team in the continent, and raise the national team to the Asian level and the World Cup for the successor."

Long-range goals

This is a sincere and heartfelt confession that Mr. Park shared with the press and fans of Vietnam, the place he considers his second home. He is looking forward to the 2026 World Cup when the number of teams will be increased to 48 and Asia will be given 8.5 slots.

Many football teams in Southeast Asia have set the goal of being present at the World Cup, but have all failed. Most recently, Thailand is in a state of "all or nothing".

For Vietnamese fans, we still need to set goals to strive for from now on. It seems that Mr. Park wants to pay more attention to the activities of the Vietnam U19 team under the direction of coach Philippe Troussier in 2020.

U19 has also just won the right to play in the 2020 Asian Finals in Uzbekistan. In fact, according to Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan - Vice President of VFF: "VFF is contacting U20 Vietnam to participate in the successful resolution of Toulon 2020 held in France". This is a tournament that brings together the world's top youth teams such as Bail, Russia, Chile, France... Achievements in this playground will help us determine where we stand on the world football map.
