On September 11, Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened a trial for defendant Nguyen Dinh Tai (born 1995), residing in Quynh Thanh commune, Quynh Luu district, for the crime of "Illegal drug trafficking".
According to the indictment, around the beginning of 2023, while drinking, Tai met a man who sold drugs. Because he regularly used drugs, Tai saved this man’s phone number.
In March 2023, a motorbike taxi driver that Tai knew before brought a customer (unknown background and address) to Tai's house to order drugs for workers building a road. Tai refused and said he did not know where to buy drugs.
On March 13, this person continued to call to ask to buy drugs, so Tai agreed. After that, Tai ordered 2 packages of pink pills and 1 package of crystal meth for 13 million VND.
After Tai transferred the money, the seller informed him that the drugs were left in a torn black shoe under a road boundary marker in front of a hotel in Dien Truong commune, Dien Chau district.
Tai drove his motorbike to get the drugs and then informed the customer to come and receive the “goods”. That same afternoon, while Tai was selling the drugs, he was discovered by the police. The evidence of the case was more than 38 grams of drugs.
At the trial, the defendant admitted to the crime as charged in the indictment. The defendant presented his difficult circumstances, large family, and lack of education, resulting in limited legal awareness, and asked the court to consider reducing his sentence.
After considering the case comprehensively, the People's Court sentenced Nguyen Dinh Tai to 15 years in prison for "Illegal drug trafficking".
