Storm Melor, level 17, approaches the East Sea
The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that at 2:00 a.m. on December 15, the center of storm Melor was located at about 12.9 degrees North latitude; 122.6 degrees East longitude, in the central Philippines. The strongest wind near the center of the storm was level 13 (ie from 135 to 150 km per hour), gusting to level 17.

It is forecasted that in the next 24 hours, the storm will move mainly in a westerly direction, traveling about 15km per hour. At 01:00 on December 16, the center of the storm was at about 13.1 degrees North latitude; 119.7 degrees East longitude, about 730km East Northeast of Song Tu Tay Island (in the Truong Sa archipelago). The strongest wind near the center of the storm is at level 11 (ie from 105 to 120km per hour), gusting to level 12-13.
Due to the influence of the storm circulation combined with the strong northeast wind zone, from this evening (December 15), the eastern sea area of the central East Sea will have strong winds of level 6-8, the area near the storm's center will have winds of level 9-11, gusting to level 12-13. The sea will be very rough.
In the next 24 to 48 hours, the storm is likely to change direction to the southwest, traveling about 5-10km per hour. At 01:00 on December 17, the center of the storm was at about 12.3 degrees North latitude; 118.3 degrees East longitude, about 450km East Northeast of Song Tu Tay Island. The strongest wind near the center of the storm is level 9 (ie from 75 to 90km per hour), gusting to level 10-11. Natural disaster risk level: level 3.
Due to the influence of the storm circulation combined with strong northeasterly winds, the sea area east of the central East Sea (including the sea area northeast of Truong Sa archipelago) has strong winds of level 6-7, the area near the storm center has winds of level 8-10, gusting to level 11-12. The sea is very rough.
During the next 48 to 72 hours, the storm will move southwest at about 15km per hour.
