According to Sputnik, in an article published in the US newspaper "The National Interest", researcher Ryan Pikrell of Central China Normal University in Wuhan said that US-China relations will certainly lead to a flashpoint, even though the two countries may have a way to resolve conflicts either militarily or diplomatically.

According to the expert, China has proposed the concept of strategic stability between Beijing and Washington as a "new model of major power relations," which implies respect for each other's political systems and national interests. The application of the new model will create a favorable environment for China's development, allowing Beijing to become an influential power in Asia without conflict with the superpowers.

However, Mr. Pikrell noted that Washington believes that this new model is not in line with the national interests of the United States. According to him, agreeing with a strategic geopolitical rival will limit the US's hegemony, causing the country to lose some of its power and influence.

Mr. Pikrell also said that the most dangerous issue for both Beijing and Washington is the territorial dispute in the South China Sea. For China, because of its history, the issue of territorial sovereignty is related to the survival of the regime, in a way that transcends all debate and disagreement. Meanwhile, the US views China's sovereignty claims and actions to assert them as expansionist and provocative, aimed at US allies and strategic partners.

According to this expert, in the current situation, it is impossible to resolve the conflict without harming the interests of any party. Based on the level of determination of both the US and China as well as the two countries' determination to maintain their approaches, the expert concluded that the crisis has reached a point of no return./.
