Preserving precious herbal and ginseng genetic resources in Nghe An
(Baonghean.vn) - The Western Nghe An region is recognized by UNESCO as a World Biosphere Reserve, with nearly 1,000 valuable medicinal plant species, many of which are highly valuable and are being preserved and developed by Nghe An province.
At the People's Committee of Muong Long Commune, Ky Son District, the People's Committee of Nghe An Province has just organized a scientific workshop to introduce the initial results of research on Puxailaileng Ginseng and some medicinal plants in the highlands of Nghe An. Attending were comrades: Le Hong Vinh - Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Nguyen Dinh Hau - Head of Technical Department, Ministry of Science and Technology, along with scientists and researchers on medicinal plants.

The Western Nghe An region is recognized by UNESCO as a World Biosphere Reserve, with nearly 1,000 species of valuable medicinal plants. Among them are many species of high value such as Puxailaileng ginseng, codonopsis pilosula, panax notoginseng, seven-leaf one-flower, golden orchid, red polygonum multiflorum... and many rare medicinal plants at risk of extinction.
With the desire to develop, maintain and preserve rare herbal and ginseng genetic resources in the province, Nghe An Provincial People's Committee has coordinated with scientific organizations and enterprises to implement a series of research topics and pilot projects to plant some medicinal plants in the Western districts and achieved initial results.

Puxailaileng ginseng can be propagated and grown well if grown in areas with cool temperate climates, at an altitude of 1,000m or more above sea level in communes such as Na Ngoi, Muong Long, Tay Son of Ky Son district.

At the workshop, researchers also directed the Ky Son district government to promote and apply mass planting of precious medicinal plants such as Codonopsis pilosula and Atractylodes macrocephala. These are medicinal plants with high economic value, with prices ranging from 200 to 250 thousand VND/1 kg of dry, short exploitation time, and can be grown in gardens and forest canopies.
On this occasion, the People's Committee of Ky Son district and Muong Long Pharmaceutical Company held a signing ceremony for cooperation in developing medicinal plants, Puxailaileng ginseng.
