Arrested gangster accused by singer Quang Ha of staging a scene to seize house documents

Tran Thanh Hai, the suspect who staged a fake purchase of an apartment worth nearly 4 billion VND from singer Quang Ha and then appropriated the documents, was arrested for his involvement in several inter-provincial crimes.

The Criminal Police Department (C45, Ministry of Public Security) and other authorities have just arrested Tran Thanh Hai (37 years old, from Nam Dinh) - a notorious gangster, the suspect previously accused by singer Quang Ha of staging a house purchase and appropriating documents.

According to records, Hai led a gang of gangsters specializing in fraud, extortion, debt collection, loan sharking, etc. operating in multiple provinces. In mid-2012, Hai and his accomplices carried out a gunfight in the center of District 1 (HCMC), then were arrested, imprisoned, and released early.

In mid-May 2016, Hai and his junior Tran Quoc Viet staged a scheme to buy an apartment from male singer Quang Ha in Phu Nhuan District (HCMC). The two sides negotiated the price of the apartment at 3.9 billion VND.

On the morning of May 18, Hai carried a suitcase and requested to complete the transfer procedures at the singer's house, then took advantage of the situation to seize the main documents of the apartment. Hai and his juniors continuously contacted the singer, offering to pay a ransom for the documents... Singer Quang Ha sent a petition for help to the authorities. In early July, he unexpectedly received the documents thrown into his house by a stranger.

Major General Ho Sy Tien, Director of Department C45, said Hai was arrested for investigation in connection with a number of inter-provincial crimes.
