There have been unconfirmed rumors that the limousine will be unveiled during the inauguration ceremony. Developed under a program called Kortezh, the car replaces the German Mercedes that has been the Russian President’s favorite.
Since the Soviet era, Russia has not used domestically produced cars to transport high-ranking officials. Therefore, the Kortezh project is considered a matter of honor, prestige, demonstrating Russia's technological and industrial capabilities, especially in the context that not many countries in the world use domestic cars to transport their number one politicians.
On the morning of May 7 local time, President Putin traveled from the First Building of the Kremlin - where his office is located - to the Grand Kremlin Palace - where the oath-taking ceremony took place, in this new black limousine.
A source close to the matter told TASS news agency: “The car has undergone all necessary checks to confirm its safety for transporting the highest-ranking state official.”
