Suspect's identity in house fire that killed 5 people on 27th of Tet unexpectedly revealed
Ho Chi Minh City police have detained suspect Nguyen Huu Phuoc, a neighbor of the victims' family.
On the morning of January 23, Ho Chi Minh City Police said they were temporarily detaining a suspect related to a house fire that killed five people in a family in District 9 early in the morning of the 27th of Tet.
After obtaining information, extracting camera footage and starting an investigation, Ho Chi Minh City Police detained suspect Nguyen Huu Phuoc (born 1982), a neighbor of the victims' family.
Previously, at around 5pm on January 22, one day after the incident, Nguyen Huu Phuoc was arrested by police detectives and taken to the headquarters to investigate the house fire. Here, Phuoc refused to admit his actions, but instead denied his crime and even presented evidence that was considered an alibi. At 10pm on the same day, faced with the evidence that the investigating officers had presented to prove Phuoc's criminal behavior, the suspect had to admit his guilt.
The suspect said that Mrs. Hue's family lived in the back and often went in and out of the alley in front of the door, which made Phuoc angry. After asking to buy Mrs. Hue's house but was refused, the suspect tried to force her family to move elsewhere.

In the early morning of January 21, Nguyen Huu Phuoc burned a bundle of rags soaked in gasoline and threw it at the four motorbikes of Ms. Hue's family parked in front of their house. The suspect said his intention was just to scare her, but he did not expect the fire to grow so big that it caused a disaster. After committing the crime, Phuoc continued to live normally to prove that he had nothing to do with the fire.
Earlier on the morning of January 21, a house in alley 567 on Do Xuan Hop Street, District 9, Ho Chi Minh City suddenly caught fire, killing 5 people in the same family. The victims included Le Thi Hue (born in 1950), Le Thi Tuyet Mai (born in 1976), Le Hoang Thanh (born in 1980), Le Hoang Trung (born in 1978) and Tran My Chuyen (born in 1990).
