French Election: Far-right Party unexpectedly wins in many localities

Mr Valls confirmed that the conservative UMP and its centrist allies had won the election and that the ruling Socialist Party had lost seats.

Exit polls conducted by Ipsos and CSA suggest that the FN could have won a large number of seats in the local areas, possibly more than two provincial councils. Meanwhile, pre-election polls did not show this./.
