Russian rescuers have rescued a 10-month-old baby boy from the rubble of an apartment building after a gas explosion killed at least nine people in the city of Magnitogorsk.

On January 1, Russian rescuers rescued a 10-month-old baby boy from the rubble of an apartment building after a gas explosion killed at least nine people in the city of Magnitogorsk.

Authorities confirmed the boy's name was Ivan Fokine and he was found in a very serious condition with frostbite, head injuries and a broken leg.

The baby was transferred to a hospital in Moscow for treatment. She has now been reunited with her mother.

According to TASS news agency, Fokine survived in harsh conditions when night temperatures dropped to -27 degrees Celsius.

Previously, at around 6:00 a.m. on December 31, 2018 (local time), or around 7:00 a.m. Vietnam time, a suspected gas explosion at a 10-story apartment building in Magnitogorsk city, Ural region, 1,700 km east of Moscow, damaged all 48 apartments in the building.

Rescuers have found six survivors, including the boy, and 32 people are still missing.

Russian President Vladimir Putin quickly arrived at the scene after the incident. Authorities have also opened a criminal investigation into the accident./.
