According to Fox News, the victim was discovered in the parking lot of a Walmart store in the suburbs of San Antonio, Texas, at around 3 p.m. yesterday.
Police said the child's father, a Walmart employee, planned to take the child to a daycare before going to work at 6:15 a.m.
However, after finishing his shift that afternoon and going to get his car, he realized he had left his son in the car.
A witness spotted the child and called the police. When officers arrived at the scene, they found the father trying to get into the car but his son was dead.
The father was later taken to hospital in shock. It is not yet clear whether he will be charged.
Temperatures in the area were around 100 degrees Fahrenheit in the afternoon. This year alone, at least 27 children in the United States have died from being left in hot cars, including the case above.
