(Baonghean.vn) - Recently, Vinh City General Hospital performed surgery to remove a large mesenteric tumor from patient Tran Van H (29 years old) in Vinh City.

One year ago, Mr. Tran Van H went to the doctor and discovered a 3x4cm tumor in his abdomen. The tumor gradually grew larger day by day. Because he did not feel any pain, he did not go to the doctor. For the past two months, Mr. H has felt his abdomen rapidly growing with abdominal pain, so he went to the Vinh City General Hospital - Nghe An for examination. Through clinical and paraclinical examination, the doctors said that the large tumor occupied almost the entire abdomen with a small amount of abdominal fluid, suspected to be due to bleeding.

Patient H was indicated for tumor removal surgery. Dr. Phan Sy Thanh Ha - Department of General Surgery, the main surgeon of the surgical team directly performing the surgery for the patient, said: "The prognosis of the surgery will be very difficult due to the large size of the tumor, there is bleeding from the tumor, so the risk of losing a lot of blood during surgery is very high. When opening the abdomen, there was little unclotted blood in the abdomen and a tumor measuring 22x16 cm, weighing about 2 kg, located on the right side of the abdomen, occupying almost the entire abdominal cavity. The surface of the tumor has many blood vessels that proliferate and increase in size. The tumor partially invades the mesentery of the transverse colon and the greater omentum. Continuing to dissect the tumor from the surrounding components in the abdomen, it was discovered that the tumor originated from the mesentery of the jejunum.

To remove the tumor, the doctors cut the greater omentum and a 25cm long segment of the jejunum. The surgery lost about 300ml of blood. The patient's digestive system was restored with a jejunal anastomosis. After surgery, the patient's health was stable and he was discharged after 6 days of treatment."

Mesenteric tumor is a rare disease with a clinical frequency of about 1/100,000 - 1/250,000 patients and was generalized by scientists around the world since 1936. However, over time, the number of patients with this disease tends to increase.

The mesentery is composed of connective tissue interspersed with fibrofatty tissue, structured in a fan shape, containing arterial, venous, lymphatic, and neural components that run to and from the intestine, along the entire length of the intestine. Most of the mesentery is mobile in the peritoneal cavity, the omentum is also a type of mesentery. Most mesenteric tumors originate from the small bowel mesentery or omentum.

Doctors recommend that people should have regular health check-ups and seek medical attention immediately when experiencing symptoms such as abdominal pain, bloating, or feeling an abnormal mass in the abdomen. Do not wait too long as this will cause many difficulties in treatment./.
