Nghe An reclaims 67.5 hectares of land to extend Vinh Airport runway to 3km
The 18th Nghe An Provincial People's Council at its 32nd Session has just approved a list of 14 land acquisition projects, notably the project to extend the runway of Vinh International Airport.

Accordingly, the Provincial People's Council decided to reclaim a total area of 67.5 hectares of land in Vinh Phu, Vinh Hung wards and Nghi Loc commune.
The project, proposed by the Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV), has a total investment of more than VND545 billion, to extend the existing runway by 600m, increasing the total length to 3,000m.
This is an important step for Vinh International Airport (Vinh Airport) to be qualified to receive wide-body aircraft, and at the same time build more taxiways, increasing operating capacity.
According to the plan, the project will complete investment policy procedures and feasibility study report in the third quarter of 2025, approve construction drawing design in the fourth quarter of 2025 and complete construction within 6 months from the handover of the site.
On the afternoon of August 28, Chairman of Nghe An Provincial People's Committee Le Hong Vinh chaired a meeting with ACV leaders, relevant departments, branches and localities, focusing on discussing solutions for site clearance, which is considered the decisive step in the progress of the entire project.
In addition to the runway extension project, ACV is also implementing three other key projects at Vinh Airport, including: expanding and renovating the aircraft parking lot; renovating Passenger Terminal T1 and upgrading the existing runway, with a total capital of more than VND925 billion.
ACV Deputy General Director Nguyen Tien Viet affirmed that the enterprise has prepared sufficient financial resources for all three projects and the runway extension project.
The increase in runway length to 3,000m is considered to have strategic significance, opening up opportunities to attract international flights, increasing operating frequency and elevating the position of Vinh Airport as one of the most important airports in the North Central region.
