Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital will 'kill' paper medical records

On April 3, Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital established an Appraisal Council of 13 members to conduct appraisal and assessment of the conditions for implementing electronic medical records (EMR).

Participating in the assessment at the Hospital were: Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Quy Tuong - Director of the Department of Information Technology, Ministry of Health and some members of the Department; representatives of the Department of Health of Nghe An province, Department of Health of Bac Ninh province; Social Insurance of Nghe An province.

After listening to the report on the electronic medical record management information system at Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital, the Appraisal Council directly surveyed and visited the machinery, information technology infrastructure, and the application of information technology in the management and operation of medical examination and treatment activities at the Laboratory Department, the Department of Diagnostic Imaging and a number of clinical departments...

The delegation directly assessed the implementation of the electronic medical record system; surveyed the server system; the connection with the image storage and transmission system; the functions and applications of information technology applied such as online medical examination and treatment registration, fingerprint confirmation instead of patient signature, electronic signature... thereby bringing practical efficiency in the application of electronic medical records to completely replace paper medical records as well as towards cashless payment at the hospital.

The results of the implementation of the information technology system of Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital fully meet the requirements for implementing electronic medical records, including: Infrastructure criteria and hospital information system (HIS) criteria; image storage and transmission system (RIS/PACS) criteria, laboratory information system (LIS) criteria, non-functional criteria, information security and safety criteria, electronic medical record (EMR) criteria and management and operations group.

After the voting results of the Appraisal Council, the results were unanimously approved and electronic medical records were deployed to completely replace paper medical records.

Concluding the meeting, Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Quy Tuong - Director of the Department of Information Technology, Ministry of Health congratulated and highly appreciated the hospital's Board of Directors under the enthusiastic direction of the leaders of the Department of Health, for their attention, investment and promotion of IT applications in the hospital, implementing electronic medical records that meet the standards of the Ministry of Health. Along with that is the spirit of drastic implementation, following the correct procedures, the hospital has fully connected with the software and applications proposed according to the province's policy. However, to further improve the IT system, Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Quy Tuong suggested that the hospital supplement and improve applications in hospital management software (HIS, LIS, PACS...); ensure connection between software; continue to develop and promote online registration for medical examination and treatment for people.
