The mystery of blue snow covering Putin's hometown
Residents in the Russian city of St Petersburg are bewildered to see a layer of blue snow covering the city, Daily Mail reported.
The strange phenomenon was captured on camera after colored snowflakes fell on Leningrad Oblast, the hometown of President Vladimir Putin.

Some believe that the blue snow is the result of the destruction of a chemical and pharmaceutical research institute in the city.
Local media quoted experts as saying that the blue color of the snow could be the color of Cobalt or Methylene Blue.

Specimens were taken to the laboratory for analysis and an investigation into the phenomenon was launched.
In February 2015, blue snow also covered the city of Chelyabinsk, about 2,400km east of St Petersburg./.
