Stabbed to death for a joke despite mother begging for her life
Just because his friend teased him, Quang took a knife and stabbed Luat to death, despite the victim's mother's pleas.
On January 31, Lieutenant Colonel Pham Manh Hung - Deputy Director of Thai Binh Provincial Police said that suspect Nguyen Duy Quang (19 years old, residing in Dong Cuong commune, Dong Hung, Thai Binh) was detained to serve the investigation after being accused of stabbing to death.Mr. Pham Duy Luat (27 years old, from the same commune).

On the evening of January 29, Luat went to Pham Duy Phuc's Internet cafe near his house and was beaten by Quang's brothers with an iron pipe for daring to tease one of Quang's friends. After being stopped by everyone, Luat went to his relative's house to play, but Quang later called and threatened to "kill the whole family if they don't come back to the cafe to talk".
At 8:00 p.m. the same day, on his way home, Luat was blocked by Quang's brothers and a young man carrying a knife, sword, and iron pipe, and stabbed to death at the village entrance. After committing the crime, Quang rode his motorbike to the house of journalist Tran Thi Xuyen (Luat's mother) to go out and bring her son's body home.
During the night, Thai Binh Provincial Police investigated and identified Quang as the main culprit, and issued an arrest warrant. According to Lieutenant Colonel Hung, Nguyen Duy Quang and his brothers were very disruptive and the police had been monitoring them for a long time.
Shocked by her son’s death, Mrs. Xuyen said that on the night Luat was stabbed to death, Quang came to her house to threaten her, forcing her to call her son back. Knowing that Quang and his brothers often beat and slashed people, Mrs. Xuyen rode her bike to Quang’s house to beg for her son’s life, but to no avail.
