Tips for new drivers to "watch" cars and avoid collisions during Tet holiday

(Baonghean.vn) - Driving a car is very different from other means of transport, mostly depending on the feeling of the driver and the car. However, drivers can completely rationalize this feeling if they grasp some of the secrets below, helping to better watch the car, avoid accidents and reduce unnecessary collisions.

1. Align the vehicle

The front of the car is considered one of the driver's blind spots, which makes it difficult to determine the exact position and distance between your car and the car in front, especially for new drivers.

To be able to predict the best distance from the car in front, the driver should find a parked car.. Then, drive the car to the back of that car little by little, then get out of the car to estimate the distance. When the car is about 0.5 meters away from the car in front, it is okay; at the same time, remember that distance to estimate when moving on the road.

Normally, the driver's left foot is designed to rest just above the front wheel on the driver's side - this can also be considered a reference point, helping the driver to keep a good distance from the vehicle in front.

2. Side alignment

The right side of the car is also a difficult spot for new drivers or those who drive less. Drivers often leave quite a lot of space, because they are afraid of colliding with vehicles on the right side such as motorbikes, bicycles, etc.

To handle this, you can ask someone to stand right at the right headlight of the car. Then make a mental note of this distance so that you can maintain a suitable distance from other vehicles on the road.

This tip can also be used in curb situations, helping the car avoid hitting the curb, causing damage to the tires and rims.

3. Align the rear of the car when parking parallel or perpendicular

For older cars, the low standard version is not equipped with reverse sensors or reverse cameras. You need to know how to position the car to help reverse safely.

When parallel parking, you need to estimate the parking space to fit the length of the car. Normally, the ideal space for parking is the length of the car plus half a meter in front and behind. This way, the front or rear car can easily get in and out.

When parking perpendicularly, you need to be able to see the front of the car or the right angle of the parking space through the rearview mirror. Maintain a distance of 20 - 30 cm from obstacles while steering into the parking space. When the rear of the car is parallel to the cars parked in the parking space, just back up until the rearview mirror is level with the two cars next to it... Do not back up further because you may collide from behind.

4. Avoid oncoming vehicles

If there are lane markings on the road, follow the lines to avoid oncoming vehicles, ensuring compliance with the law and keeping a safe distance.

In cases where there are no dividing lines on the road, the driver needs to imagine a virtual center line, then turn the steering wheel slightly to the right so that the front of the car is facing inward, estimating enough space for the car to move into the middle. According to experts, a space equal to or greater than the width of the oncoming vehicle is the standard for two cars to avoid each other safely.

5. Keep in your lane when driving on multi-lane roads.

Normally, new drivers tend to stick to the left or right side of the lane. The reason is to avoid collision with vehicles moving in the right lane, or to leave too much space with the median strip. However, these situations can create misunderstandings for other vehicles.

The trick is to simply look out the driver's side window, if you see the lane right at the bottom edge of the window, it means the car is in the middle of the lane.

6. Keep distance from the vehicle in front

According to the Law, drivers need to keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front when moving. This distance must be far enough for the driver to be able to promptly handle unexpected situations such as the vehicle in front braking suddenly or having an accident.

To accurately estimate this distance, apply the 3-second rule - by choosing a landmark that the car in front has just moved to (such as a power pole, billboard, etc.). If after 3 seconds, your car has just reached this point, it is a safe distance.

In addition, when traveling at high speed, you should limit tailgating. This habit not only limits visibility but is also dangerous for your vehicle and other vehicles.
