Good Youth Union Secretary and past mistakes
(Baonghean.vn) - Meeting Mr. Nguyen Duc Hieu today, few people would have expected that the 8x Secretary of the Youth Union, active and energetic in all activities of Tan Hoa block, Nghia Dan town, had a erroneous past. He did not hesitate to talk about that "impulsive time", because "if he did not know how to look straight at those sad days to redo each first page, he could not have today".
After finishing 12th grade, Hieu went to the South to start a business. He is naturally quick-witted, and he learns anything new or interesting. Hieu's life is quite favorable with a stable income. He only needs to save up to build a career and make his dream of becoming a boss come true.
But things were not as Hieu thought. The young man recounted his incident with a regretful voice: "At that time, I myself was not really mature. Once, due to a conflict, my group of friends and I got into a fight with another group, causing property loss. I was arrested for robbery."

Hieu was sentenced to 3.5 years in prison and served his sentence at Tong Le Chan prison in Binh Phuoc. During his time in prison, Duc Hieu realized that his mistakes meant he had to accept the punishment of the law. He realized even more the value of freedom, so he told himself to try harder.
Thanks to his good compliance with prison regulations, gentleness, and good rehabilitation, Hieu was promoted to work in the camp's rubber collection team. In August 2011, after 2 years and 10 months, Hieu was released from prison early and granted amnesty to return to his family.
On the first day of his return, he was delighted to be invited to participate in activities at the Youth Union of the neighborhood where his family lives. Encouraged by his relatives and the local community, he boldly contributed to collective activities. He participated in every job with the thought of overcoming the pressure of discrimination and gaining the trust of those around him after his past mistakes.
In 2012, Mr. Hieu was elected as Secretary of the Tan Hoa Youth Union. As the leader of nearly 100 students and youth, he has initiated many movements that have been responded to by many young people. Volunteer activities to clean up canals, roads, and help poor families are always carried out regularly to raise the spirit of self-awareness and sense of community responsibility among Youth Union members.
Looking at the young people who are playful and mischievous, he thinks of himself in the past, that is why he always spends a lot of time paying close attention, advising them to have a direction and cultivate themselves. At the same time, he actively organizes activities to propagate legal knowledge and the harmful effects of social evils for young people, contributing to limiting the proliferation of regrettable acts in the community.
According to Mr. Hieu, everyone has good qualities in them. We just need to try to create a healthy playground and call on youth union members to participate in many meaningful volunteer activities. "I believe they will know what is right."

Continuing to receive the trust and love of the people, in 2014, Mr. Hieu was assigned by the town's Military Command to be the Platoon Leader of the town's mobile militia team. Not long after that, he was elected by the Tan Hoa block executive committee as Village Team Leader.
In the minds of many people, the job of a Youth Union Secretary or Village Team Leader may just be “eating at home and carrying the burden of the village”, but for someone with a “black” past like him, this is the recognition of the neighborhood. Participating in social activities in the residential area has helped him erase the inferiority complex about his past to integrate into the community, making life more and more meaningful.
Also in 2014, Mr. Hieu was selected to attend a Party sympathy class. With his enthusiasm and ability in work, in June 2015, Mr. Hieu was honored to be admitted to the Communist Party of Vietnam. Having participated in many social activities and being in the Party's ranks, Mr. Hieu considered it an opportunity, a framework to train himself.
Not only is his "carrying the whole prison" recognized by everyone, Mr. Hieu is also good at business. Realizing that a stable family economy is the only condition to participate in collective activities, he boldly opened an electronics repair shop. Determined to make a profit from work, not compete on price but on service quality, thanks to his diligence, carefulness, and high skills, his shop has won the trust of people in the block and neighboring areas.

Thanks to his efforts, every year Mr. Hieu receives certificates of merit from the commune and district levels for his contributions and efforts in union activities. Comrade Nguyen Van Thao, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Nghia Dan town said: "Hieu is a young man who always strives to become a good citizen. He always completes all assigned tasks well, is enthusiastic and energetic, contributing significantly to the overall achievements of the town".
Hieu’s plan is to continue studying to improve his skills in civil electricity to lay the foundation for expanding the scale of the store. Being more mature in life and still full of enthusiasm and passion for his career and the Youth Union will certainly be the key for Hieu to create new “chapters” in his life.
