Secretary of remote district in Nghe An saves salary to buy cows for poor households

On October 1, Mr. Vi Hoe - Secretary of the District Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Council of Ky Son districtvisited and presented a breeding cow worth 10 million VND to support the family of Ms. Luong Thi Xai (born in 1941), a Thai ethnic household with special difficulties in Ba village, Huu Kiem commune (Ky Son). The money to buy the cow for the poor household was saved by Mr. Vi Hoe from his own salary.
Along with giving breeding cows to Ms. Xai's family, the Secretary of the Ky Son District Party Committee also proposed that the district's technical staff provide guidance on breeding techniques and apply scientific measures to help cows develop and reproduce well, thereby contributing to the development of the family's economy and gradually escape poverty.
Not only the Secretary of Ky Son District Party Committee, recently many cadres and party members of this remote district of Nghe An have also saved money from their salary fund to contribute to buying livestock and poultry to support poor households in the area.
This is the concretization of Directive 17-CT/HU, dated September 8, 2017 of the District Party Committee on cadres and party members helping poor households. This time, the Ky Son District Party Committee focused on mobilizing cadres and party members of district-level agencies, departments, branches and schools to help Huu Kiem commune reduce the rate of poor households, aiming to achieve the goal of meeting new rural standards in the first quarter of 2020. Up to now, 15 collectives and individuals have received support and helped 15 poor households in Huu Kiem commune with a total amount of 159 million VND.

Previously, in the preliminary review of 2 years of implementing Directive 17 of the District Party Committee, cadres and party members in the whole district saved money from their salaries to help 175 extremely disadvantaged households and 111 poor and lonely students in the area with livestock such as cows and goats; supported working days, essential items, and construction materials with a total amount of more than 1.4 billion VND.
Ky Son is known as a remote district of Nghe An province. The district has 203.409 km of border, of which 91.983 km is on land and 111.426 km is on rivers and streams, bordering 4 districts in 3 provinces of Laos.
The district has 21 communes and towns; 11 communes with 56 border villages; The total natural land area is 209,484 hectares, of which only 1% is flat land, the remaining 99% is hills and mountains. The population of the district is 78,830 people with 5 ethnic groups, including: Kho Mu 36.36%, Mong 33.42%; Thai 26.11%; Kinh and Hoa 4.09%. The poverty rate is up to 50.9%.
