Nghe An Provincial Party Secretary: 'Focus on poverty reduction, contributing to economic growth'

(Baonghean.vn) - On the afternoon of June 3, a working delegation of Nghe An province led by comrade Nguyen Dac Vinh - Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee had a working session with the Standing Committee of Tuong Duong District Party Committee.

Also attending the meeting were comrade Le Hong Vinh - Member of the Standing Committee, Chairman of the Provincial Party Committee's Inspection Commission, representatives of provincial departments, branches and sectors. On the side of Tuong Duong district, there were leaders of the District Party Committee, District People's Committee and related departments and sectors.

Tuong Duong is a mountainous district of Nghe An, classified as a poor district according to Resolution 30a of the Government, with a 57.9 km border, bordering 2 provinces of Laos, with a population of more than 73,000 people, including the Thai, Kho Mu, Mong, Kinh, Tay Poong and O Du ethnic groups. The climate in the district is harsh, the natural area is large but there is little flat land, the slope is large, so many areas are at risk of landslides, flash floods, etc.

After the 26th District Party Congress, Tuong Duong focused on implementing an action program with 14 key contents, taking care of all aspects of people's lives, and focusing on implementing the new rural construction program.

Leaders of provincial departments, branches and sectors attended the meeting.

In the first 5 months of the year, the district's economic activities were stable and had positive changes, with total production value increasing by 6.9% over the same period. Culture and society made progress, education quality improved, and the poverty rate dropped to 45%.

National defense and security are ensured; the fight against drug crimes, human trafficking, etc. is stepped up. Party building and political system building work have achieved good results, creating high unity and consensus.

Realizing that there are still limitations such as fragmented agricultural and forestry economy, no concentrated production areas; weak economic and social infrastructure system, high poverty rate,... in the coming time, the Standing Committee of Tuong Duong District Party Committee will continue to focus on directing the implementation of programs, projects, and plans to implement resolutions of Party congresses at all levels, striving to complete the goals, targets and tasks of 2016.

Comrade Le Hong Vinh - Member of the Standing Committee, Chairman of the Provincial Party Committee's Inspection Commission said that doing a good job of preserving the culture of ethnic groups in the area will contribute to attracting tourists to Tuong Duong.

At the meeting, provincial departments and branches gave many comments and discussed the proposals and recommendations of Tuong Duong district, focusing on the following contents: resettlement of people for irrigation and hydropower projects; investment in construction of traffic routes to resettlement areas; construction of medical stations for border communes; promotion of advantages in afforestation and animal husbandry, etc.

Concluding the meeting, Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Dac Vinh acknowledged Tuong Duong's efforts to overcome natural difficulties, and at the same time directed the district to focus on improving people's lives and ensuring children's education.

He noted that Tuong Duong needs to effectively organize and implement action programs, projects, and plans to implement the Resolutions of Party Congresses at all levels, propose practical solutions for the set goals, create some breakthroughs, and bring about new developments so that Tuong Duong does not fall behind.

Commenting that Tuong Duong has been doing well in poverty reduction, the Provincial Party Secretary noted that the district needs to promote it, because for mountainous districts, poverty reduction is as important as economic growth.
