Provincial Party Secretary: 'Must legally resolve religious issues right from the grassroots'

Comrades Nguyen Xuan Duong - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Le Xuan Dai - Member of the Standing Committee, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Luu Cong Vinh - Deputy Director of the Department of Home Affairs and Head of the Provincial Religious Affairs Committee co-chaired the conference. Speaking at the conference, Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Dac Vinh affirmed that state management of religion is an important field that always receives attention from the Provincial Party Committee and Provincial People's Committee.
2016 had many challenges, including the environmental pollution incident in the central coastal region, which somewhat affected the general situation. With the experience and dedication of those working in state management of religion, the province's socio-economic situation has developed, national defense and security have been ensured, legitimate and legal religious needs have been resolved clearly and promptly. Religious dignitaries, officials, and followers basically agree with the state's policies and guidelines.

However, the Provincial Party Secretary also said that compared to the actual requirements of Nghe An, the training and development of religious staff and mass mobilization work in areas with a large number of religious followers needs more effort.
Regarding the direction and tasks for 2017, he requested that sectors and localities focus on fundamentally resolving religious issues, proactively and promptly handling legitimate religious needs at the grassroots level, and actively propagating so that people in general and religious dignitaries, officials and followers in particular correctly understand and fully grasp the Party's guidelines and policies and the State's laws and policies. It is necessary to promptly commend and encourage progressive religious dignitaries, officials and followers while resolutely fighting against wrongdoings that go against the interests of the nation and people.
The Provincial Party Secretary also requested local Party committees and authorities to pay attention to effectively implementing Project 01 DA/TU on "Building Party cells and developing Party members in blocks, hamlets and villages at risk of no longer having Party cells in the period 2016-2020".

On this occasion, 4 individuals with outstanding achievements in State management of religion were honored to receive certificates of merit from the Prime Minister; 36 collectives and individuals received certificates of merit from the Provincial People's Committee; 2 individuals received commemorative medals from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
In Nghe An province, there are two legal religions: Catholicism and Buddhism, in addition to a number of other religious followers. Of which, Catholicism has about 270,000 followers; Buddhism has about 84,000 followers. |
