Growth rate higher than provincial average
At the meeting this morning, the Provincial Party Standing Committee heard a report on the results of 5 years of implementing Decision No. 2355-QD/TTg of the Prime Minister approving the Project on socio-economic development of the Western region of Nghe An province until 2020.
According to the report, the average growth rate in the 2013-2018 period in the Western Nghe An region is estimated at 8.4%, higher than the average of the whole province; the economic structure has shifted in a positive direction; budget revenue has increased significantly; investment capital attraction in the area has increased rapidly; agriculture has developed quite comprehensively, forming a number of areas for producing raw materials and large-scale concentrated livestock farming associated with the development of the processing industry; attention has been paid to the construction of economic - social and urban infrastructure; social order and safety are stable...

In addition to the achieved results, the West still has limitations such as: socio-economic development is not commensurate with its potential; economic scale is still small, connectivity is low, efficiency is not high; many projects are implemented slowly compared to requirements; illegal exploitation of forest products and minerals still occurs... Of the 27 important targets set out in Decision 2355, there are 8 targets forecasted to be difficult to achieve by 2020.
Need to boldly allocate land and forests to people
At the meeting, delegates discussed and gave their opinions on the development targets for the Western region in the coming period. Accordingly, the targets must be practical and close to each locality, such as forest coverage, hydropower development, transportation, forest product processing, medicinal herbs, etc.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Thai Thanh Quy - Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee said that it is necessary to focus on investing in infrastructure for mountainous areas; in the investment process, it is necessary to focus on selecting large, key projects, not investing widely; taking advantage of resources from the Central Government to invest in projects for natural disaster prevention, transportation, electricity, etc.
