As a route with up to 5 schools, Hai Thuong Lan Ong Street often experiences traffic jams during rush hours, especially on rainy days.

To solve this situation, the city has researched and planned to apply one-way traffic on this route during rush hours such as 6-8am and 4-6pm.

While waiting for the one-way street plan to be implemented, a sign prohibiting cars from turning left was recently erected at the intersection of Ha Huy Tap and Hai Thuong Lan Ong streets, receiving mixed opinions from the public.

Mr. Nguyen Chi Linh, a household living on Hai Thuong Lan Ong Street, said, "The sign prohibiting cars from turning left was placed about a week ago. I and many households living here find the sign prohibiting left turns unreasonable."

According to Mr. Linh, in addition to those who live on Hai Thuong Lan Ong Street, there are also many people from Nghi Phu who travel on this street to go to Vinh station or the market area at Kenh Bac bridge. If left turns are banned, many people will have to take a detour, which is very inconvenient.

According to him, implementing one-way traffic on this route is also a bit difficult. Because the roads parallel to Hai Thuong Lan Ong are all small and narrow. Therefore, turning Hai Thuong Lan Ong into a one-way street is not certain to solve the traffic congestion situation.

Because it was newly installed and has not been widely publicized, many cars traveling on this road still violate the law. Photo: Chu Thanh

As a resident of Hai Thuong Lan Ong Street for 20 years, Ms. Nguyen Thi Van did not know about the sign prohibiting cars from turning left and was quite surprised when asked.

Like Mr. Linh, Ms. Van thinks that this sign is not placed appropriately. “Because in fact, Hai Thuong Lan Ong Street is only crowded during rush hours in the morning and afternoon, because many parents pick up and drop off their children. Meanwhile, many parents are not aware of stopping and parking, causing traffic jams. At other times of the day, the street is quite empty, so placing a sign prohibiting cars from turning left will cause difficulties for people,” Ms. Van said.

Ms. Dang Thi Hoa, Chairwoman of the People's Committee of Ha Huy Tap Ward, said that the no left turn sign was put up not long ago, but even the ward officials did not know about this policy. According to Ms. Hoa, many people have complained about the unreasonableness of the no left turn sign and the Ha Huy Tap ward officials themselves agree with the people's opinion.

Regarding the plan to implement one-way traffic on Hai Thuong Lan Ong Street during rush hours (from 6-8am and 4-6pm), Ha Huy Tap Ward strongly supports. Because the implementation date is not yet known, in the immediate future, to prepare for the first day of school, Ha Huy Tap Ward will discuss and implement measures to prevent traffic congestion during this time./.
