Regarding the incident of YouTube channels posting offensive and obscene clips for profit, which has caused a stir in the online community in the past 2 days, a source from the Department of Radio, Television and Electronic Information said that Minister of Information and Communications Truong Minh Tuan has directed the Department to inspect and take measures to handle this behavior.
Recently, the Ministry of Information and Communications has issued Circular No. 38/2016/TT-BTTTT dated December 26, 2016 detailing the provision of public information across borders. According to the newly issued circular, cross-border content providers such as YouTube, Facebook... are responsible for handling information that violates Vietnam's management regulations when the Ministry of Information and Communications sends a written request for coordination.
Yesterday, the online community was very indignant when some people shared the incident of YouTube channels using offensive, revealing and somewhat obscene clip content aimed at mainly children, which caused the online community to boil. Many parents were worried that when their children were out of their control, they would accidentally follow these channels, when the search keywords were very simple and popular such as "Elsa", "Spiderman", "Spider-Man"... In addition, young people also recognized that this was an unethical act to blatantly make money.
YouTube channels that use clips with offensive, revealing content aimed at children have now blocked viewers from Vietnam. In particular, the YouTube channel called "Spiderman Frozen Marvel Superhero Real Life" with most of its clips featuring female characters dressed in revealing clothes, the clip content is no different from... sex movies (currently blocked all viewers from Vietnam).
Many famous forums such as Voz, Otofun, Computer Forum... consisting of young people who have knowledge about computer science, or are interested in creating YouTube content, have called on each other to report channels with such content.
The general opinion of the majority is that these YouTube channels should disappear or not be allowed to appear in front of children. Currently, the topic about that issue on the forum voz...com has reached 30,000 hits and nearly 600 comments. The issue is still being discussed to find a way to block these types of channels.
Perhaps reporting to YouTube will not prevent new channels from being created, but it will raise a warning bell for parents about managing information channels with their children. In addition, the next YouTube channels will not be able to have a large source of income from clips with similar offensive content.
