Brazil reaches for ticket to World Cup 2018
Neymar and his teammates won their sixth consecutive victory in the South American qualifying round when they defeated Peru 2-0, thereby widening the gap with the group below.
Goals: Gabriel Jesus 58', Renato Augusto 78'
Playing away at the home of the team that had just beaten Paraguay 4-1, Brazil only had trouble in the first half. After the break, thanks to two accurate finishes from striker Gabriel Jesus and midfielder Renato Augusto, the five-time world champions easily won 2-0.
With three points from matchday 12, Brazil has one hand on the ticket to the 2018 World Cup. Neymar and his teammates currently have 27 points, four points ahead of second-placed Uruguay and nine points ahead of sixth-placed Colombia. If they continue to win in the next three matches (out of eight remaining matches), Brazil could be the team to secure the ticket earliest in South America.
The top four teams from South America will go straight to Russia for the finals. The fifth-placed team will play for a spot in the Oceania qualifiers.

For Brazil, the win over Peru meant more than three points. It was the final point in Brazil's first six consecutive wins in qualifying since the Pele and Tostao generation qualified for the 1970 World Cup.
No longer witnessing the influential superstars of the past, but the fans of the samba country today can be proud of Neymar and Gabriel Jesus. In the match on the morning of November 16, Jesus himself shone with a goal and an assist. This striker scored his first goal when he fired a cool shot from 13 meters away in the 58th minute, before passing to Augusto to seal the victory.
Compared to Jesus, Neymar played a bit more quietly due to being closely marked. The Brazilian striker wearing the number 10 shirt could only make one pass to Paulinho (whose shot was pushed out by goalkeeper Gallese), before missing the opportunity with a shot that went over the crossbar in the 76th minute.
Meanwhile, if they had finished better, Peru could have earned a point from Brazil. The home team had the chance to score first with Andre Carillo's shot just wide of the goal in the seventh minute. In the second half, Peruvian fans were also disappointed to see Christian Ramos head the ball wide of the post in the 72nd minute. Peru did not have the same luck and finishing ability as in the 4-1 victory on Paraguay's field last weekend.
With the victory on the morning of November 16, Coach Tite can now rub his hands in satisfaction with his achievements in leading Brazil. The yellow-green team not only won six consecutive matches, but also kept a clean sheet in four consecutive matches.
