Entering this year's tomato harvest, Ms. Nguyen Thi Loc's family in Quynh Minh commune was excited when the price started to increase at the beginning of the season. Her family planted 2 sao of tomatoes since the end of the 12th lunar month, and after more than 2 months of care, they have now harvested.
"If we finish harvesting this tomato crop, on average 1 sao will yield about 2-3 tons, with the current purchase price of 5,000 VND/kg, after deducting expenses, we will earn about 6 million VND/sao" - Ms. Nguyen Thi Loc.
About a month ago, tomato growers in the district were struggling because of a bumper crop and low prices; they even dumped their produce to feed livestock. However, at this time, tomato prices have started to increase to 4,000 - 5,000 VND/kg in the field (an increase of 2,000 - 3,000 VND/kg compared to before), so many households in Quynh Minh, Quynh Luong, Quynh Thanh, and Quynh Doi communes are focusing on harvesting.

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong in Quynh Thanh commune, a month ago, her family harvested tomatoes and had to bring them to the market to sell, but few people bought them. Because the tomato crop was good, the price dropped to 1,000 - 2,000 VND/kg. After this period, tomatoes started to enter the season, so the supply of fruit to the market was still low, so traders came to the fields to buy for the people.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy, a trader in Quynh Luong commune, added that at this time, vegetables and fruits are not as plentiful as during the year, but every day she tries to purchase about 20 tons of vegetables of all kinds, including 4-5 tons of tomatoes. All goods will be transported by car to Hue, Da Nang...
According to statistics, in Quynh Luu district, there are currently about 150 hectares of tomatoes, of which about 100 hectares are in harvest season. The average tomato yield is 40 tons/ha, with the current purchase price, 1 hectare earns about 160 million VND. Farmers have begun to make a profit, making up for the costs of the recent period of poor tomato sales and crop failures.
