Localities in Nghe An urgently overcome consequences after floods
(Baonghean.vn) - Authorities at all levels and people in flooded areas in Nghe An are urgently overcoming the consequences, visiting, encouraging, and helping affected families.due to flood.
Prolonged heavy rain with rainfall of over 200 mm, combined with the rapid flow of water from upstream and the overflow of Vuc Mau Lake caused localized flooding and flash floods in some areas in Hoang Mai and Quynh Luu towns.

*According to preliminary statistics as of the morning of October 12, in Hoang Mai town, the flood caused 1 woman in Quynh Vinh commune to be swept away to death; 620 hectares of vegetables and 100 hectares of turmeric were flooded and destroyed; 32 hectares of shrimp farming, 36 hectares of freshwater fish farming were flooded; 115 fish cages died about 30%/cage. About 260 livestock and 2,500 poultry died due to flooding and being swept away.
Fishing boat with license plate number NA 9324-TS, capacity of 250 CV, owner is Mr. Ho Sy Thanh, Tam Hop hamlet, Quynh Lap commune, was anchored at Lien Thanh fishing port, Hoang Mai town and sank due to heavy rain. Total estimated damage is over 13 billion VND.

* In Quynh Luu district,2,112 houses were heavily flooded, many households had to evacuate people and belongings to safe places, most concentrated in Quynh Lam commune with 567 households, Son Hai 320 households, Cau Giat town 250 households, Quynh Hong 195 households...
The flood caused many canals and dams to overflow and collapse, such as the Mo River dike in Quynh Bang commune, where the water overflowed the dike surface for 500m, the Vuc Mau canal in Quynh Van commune, where two sections of 26m were broken, the main canal of Dam 32 in Tan Son commune, where a 7m long section was broken, and the Vung San dam in Quynh Tan commune, where a 5m long landslide occurred.

Along with that, the whole district has nearly 850 hectares of crops such as corn, melon, sesame, vegetables also flooded, broken. In addition, nearly 560 hectares of rice-fish farming, more than 6 hectares of shrimp were also flooded and lost, the number of livestock and poultry died, swept away by water is 733. The total damage of the whole district in this flood is over 10 billion VND.
As the floodwaters began to recede, Quynh Luu district quickly directed communes to urgently mobilize forces to help people overcome the consequences. For households with severe damage, the district and localities quickly provided assistance, financial support, and encouragement; at the same time, urgently mobilized police, military and local forces to repair roads, irrigation, infrastructure in aquaculture areas, etc. On the other hand, it is necessary to pay attention to sanitation and epidemic prevention after floods to limit disease outbreaks.
* In Yen Thanh district,One person died from drowning. The winter crop area was flooded and damaged, covering 175 hectares, including 140 hectares of corn and 35 hectares of various vegetables; 9 hectares of aquaculture were flooded, and 900 poultry died.

307 households in the communes of Lang Thanh, Long Thanh, Bao Thanh, Cong Thanh and My Thanh were flooded. 100% of local dams were full (the whole district has more than 200 dams). Of these, the dams at highest risk of breaking are Sat dam in Tien Thanh commune and Don Hung dam in Hung Thanh commune, threatening about 300 households downstream in the communes of Tien Thanh, Lang Thanh and Hung Thanh.
The district People's Committee has lowered the spillway, reduced the water level in the dam; mobilized rescue forces, prepared means and tools for rescue when an incident occurs. The district assigned localities to be on duty 24/7 at the weak dams to monitor the situation to promptly respond when there is a risk of dam failure and develop plans to urgently evacuate people to safe places.
