National patriotic emulation congresses

First Congress (1952)
The first Patriotic Emulation Congress was held from May 1 to 6, 1952 in the Viet Bac resistance base. President Ho Chi Minh attended the Congress. More than 150 emulation fighters from workers, farmers, soldiers and intellectuals nationwide participated in the Congress. This Congress marked the victories of the emulation movement to eradicate illiteracy, hunger and foreign invaders. The success of the Congress encouraged our entire people and army to enthusiastically achieve many achievements, moving forward to win the Dien Bien Phu campaign, completely liberating the North.

Second Congress (1958)
The Second Patriotic Emulation Congress took place from July 7 to 8, 1958 in Hanoi. President Ho Chi Minh attended the Congress. The Congress had over 450 delegates. The Congress honored 26 Labor Heroes and proposed that the State award 618 Labor Medals of various ranks and 38 Certificates of Merit to outstanding collectives and individuals in the patriotic emulation movement.
Third Congress (1962)
The 3rd Patriotic Emulation Congress took place in Hanoi from May 4 to 6, 1962. President Ho Chi Minh attended the Congress. The Congress honored 45 Labor Heroes, 985 National Emulation Fighters, 267 advanced units, socialist labor teams and groups, and proposed that the State award 594 Labor Medals and 27 Military Exploit Medals of various ranks. Some typical individuals such as Professor, Doctor Ton That Tung, and agronomist Luong Dinh Cua created many high-yield agricultural plant varieties... The Congress marked important victories, contributing to the completion of the first 5-year plan of the socialist revolution in the North, creating strength to support the battlefield in the South, defeating the American invaders, and unifying the country.
4th Congress (1967)

The 4th Patriotic Emulation Congress was held from January 6 to 7, 1967 in Hanoi. President Ho Chi Minh attended the Congress. The Congress had over 500 delegates in attendance; 45 collectives and 111 individuals were honored as Labor Heroes and People's Armed Forces Heroes. This Congress praised the will and strength of our entire army and people, who have been and are making glorious victories in the resistance war against the US to save the country.
5th Congress (1986)
The 5th National Emulation Congress took place from January 16 to 17, 1986 in Hanoi. The Congress was attended by 218 heroic units and collectives, 111 heroic individuals and 223 national emulation fighters from all walks of life, all ages, localities, lowlands and highlands. This was the first national congress of heroes and emulation fighters since the reunification of the country; to praise the victory of our people and army in labor, building socialism and fighting to protect the Fatherland; to raise the determination to overcome difficulties, promote production, practice thrift, successfully complete the 5-year State plan 1986-1990, opening the period of renovation.
6th Congress (2000)
The 6th National Emulation Congress took place from November 21 to 24, 2000 at the Vietnam-Soviet Friendship Cultural Palace, Hanoi. The Congress was attended by over 900 delegates who were Heroes, National Emulation Fighters and new, advanced models. Among them, there were 407 heroic collectives and individuals, 298 national emulation fighters, and 195 advanced models. This was a Congress representing the great national unity bloc, of the patriotic emulation movement in the first 15 years of implementing the Party's renewal policy; demonstrating the determination to successfully carry out the cause of national renewal; encouraging and promoting the spirit of emulation and the will to rise up to successfully implement the Resolution of the 9th National Party Congress.
7th Congress (2005)

The 7th National Emulation Congress took place from October 4 to 6, 2005, at the Vietnam-Soviet Friendship Cultural Palace, Hanoi. The Congress was attended by over 1,270 delegates (1,160 official delegates, 110 invited delegates) selected from typical advanced conferences and emulation congresses of ministries, branches, organizations and localities nationwide. The oldest delegate was Professor Tran Van Giau (93 years old), Hero of Labor in the renovation period.
8th Congress (2010)
The 8th National Emulation Congress took place from December 27 to 28, 2010, at the National Convention Center, Hanoi. The Congress was attended by 1,500 delegates, including 334 delegates who were individuals and representatives of Labor Heroes, People's Armed Forces Heroes, and National Emulation Fighters who were awarded the titles in the past 5 years; 995 typical advanced and outstanding examples in various fields.
The Congress took place in an atmosphere where the entire Party, people and army were striving to successfully fulfill the 5-year socio-economic development task (2006-2010), making achievements to welcome the 11th National Congress of the Party.

The 9th National Patriotic Emulation Congress will take place in Hanoi on December 6 and 7. With the theme "Solidarity, creativity, emulation to build and protect the Fatherland", the congress is expected to have 2,000 delegates; including 1,800 official delegates and 200 invited guests. Of these, 101 delegates are "National Emulation Fighters", 167 delegates are representatives of collectives and individuals awarded the title "Hero of Labor", "Hero of the People's Armed Forces". 1,394 delegates are representatives of typical and advanced collectives and individuals with outstanding achievements in the fields of politics, economics, society, national defense, security, diplomacy, etc.
