To celebrate Tet safely, people need to pay attention when choosing to buy jams, wine, candies... to ensure quality and hygiene.

During Tet, people's demand for dried foods, dried fruits, cakes, candies and sweets is very high. However, in the current market, taking advantage of the increased demand, many business owners import goods of unknown origin and origin as well as do not ensure quality and hygiene requirements to sell to people.

Choose Tet jam

When choosing to buy cakes and jams, you should choose the type with clear packaging, brand and address. As well as the jams that have full quality certificates from the authorities.

For cakes and jams with bright, flashy colors, it is due to the use of industrial colors containing many heavy metals, which seriously affects the health of users and can lead to many diseases such as cancer, digestive disorders, nervous system...

For dried jams, you should choose the ones with natural colors, limit the ones with many synthetic colors. Note, you should buy jams with intact packaging, sold in a cool place, newly produced and within the expiration date.

When buying, you must read the packaging label carefully, you should buy jam from reputable manufacturers on the market; buy at trusted places such as supermarkets, agents, etc. because there is control over product hygiene quality.

Use your senses such as: sight, smell, touch, taste… to detect whether the jam is moldy, has a foul smell, is runny, or has a sour smell.

Watermelon seeds

Watermelon seeds are easily soaked and dyed with toxic chemicals such as Rhodamine B, which are harmful to the body. Long-term consumption of Rhodamine B-dyed watermelon seeds can cause liver and kidney failure and cancer.

Melons dyed with Rhodamine B are usually dark red, look like paint, and do not fade in the mouth when put in the mouth.

If melon seeds are dyed with industrial dyes (used in dyeing fabrics...) they usually have a bright color that does not fade, even when exposed to water.

Watermelon seeds dyed with food coloring have natural colors, not too dark, not shiny, easy to fade, smudge when exposed to water, so the color easily sticks to hands and skin when used. When left wet, the color will stick to cotton and silk fabrics.

When buying watermelon seeds, choose seeds that are naturally red-brown, not bright red or pink, and not burnt black.

Do not choose the kind that has oil on the smooth shell. Choose the kind that when you pick up the seed and bite it, your hands, lips, and tongue will not be stained with red; the seed inside is ivory white, with a characteristic fatty taste. Try it before buying by putting the whole seed in your mouth to let it absorb saliva, then rub it in your palm to see if the color fades.

If the melon seeds have a strange color, smell of oil or mold, or taste strangely bitter, you should not use them.

Alcohol

Before buying wine, consumers should check whether the stamp, label and bottle cap are clear and intact.

When opening a bottle of wine, if you smell a strong alcohol smell, it means the wine has a high alcohol content. The drinker should gently shake the glass to check the adhesion of the wine to the glass.

Aged and real wines often have a distinctive aroma and a thick consistency, when swirled the wine will lightly cling to the side of the glass.

Confectionery

Choose quality products from reputable brands. Do not buy foreign confectionery of unknown origin or of uncertain quality or food safety just because of cheap prices or foreign labels.

If you choose a pre-packaged gift basket to give as a gift, you need to carefully check the structure of the products packaged inside to avoid buying poor quality foreign goods, which will not only affect the user's health but also reduce the value and meaning of the gift being given.
