Dien Chau farmers' new method of sowing sesame before harvesting peanuts

(Baonghean.vn) - After harvesting spring peanuts, farmers in Dien Chau (Nghe An) planted 2,200 hectares of summer-autumn sesame with black sesame, yellow sesame and V6 sesame varieties.

Along with the traditional method of sowing, where after harvesting peanuts, the land is plowed and sown with sesame; for the past 2 years, Dien Chau farmers have applied a new sowing method. Before harvesting spring peanuts, farmers spread summer-autumn sesame on the peanut fields. When farmers pull out peanuts, the sesame will fall on the roots of the pulled peanuts and be covered with soil. This method not only helps farmers save on plowing but also takes advantage of the soil's moisture. The sesame is covered with nylon so it is not affected by drought, has little weeds, and has high productivity.

Cover peanuts with plastic after harvesting, leaving sesame intact. This method is effective in the field.

Thanks to that method, Dien Chau farmers have now sown 70% of the summer-autumn sesame area. In many communes such as Dien Hung, Dien Hoang, Dien Thinh, Dien Thanh, etc., sesame has grown well, with 4-5 leaves.

Dien Chau strives to close 2,200 hectares of sesame before June 5.
