Tan Ky is one of five localities included in the Vinh orange geographical indication.

This locality currently has 180 hectares of oranges, of which 150 hectares are for harvest, concentrated in the communes of Tan Phu, Tan Long, Tan An (belonging to 2 units: An Ngai Agricultural 2-member LLC and Song Con Agricultural One Member LLC) and some other communes. Tan Ky plans to have 250 - 300 hectares of citrus trees by 2020. Tan Ky's oranges are mainly Xa Doai oranges.

However, Tan Ky orange growers are concerned because up to now, care has been spontaneous, even planning has not been clear; the consumption market is unstable, traders are forcing down prices, so the economic value is not high. Therefore, the application of electronic stamps to trace the origin of Vinh oranges for Tan Ky orange products is very necessary, and is being paid attention to and awaited by orange growers.

Therefore, at the working session of the Department of Science and Technology with orange growers in Tan Ky district on the afternoon of October 19, orange growers in the district hoped that all levels and sectors would pay attention to the local orange planning and provide guidance on the process of caring for oranges in a safe direction, and at the same time disseminate the process of attaching electronic stamps to trace the origin of Vinh oranges in the near future.

Comrade Nguyen Viet Hung - Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology answered the concerns of Tan Ky orange growers, and at the same time hoped that orange growers in Tan Ky would coordinate with relevant levels and sectors to approach new orange production thinking. This is an opportunity for Tan Ky orange growers to be recognized by levels and sectors as eligible to have electronic stamps to trace the origin of Vinh oranges.

Therefore, the Department of Science and Technology in collaboration with the Department of Food Safety and Quality Management of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries will organize training for Tan Ky orange growers on the orange production process according to food safety procedures. After completing the training, orange growers will be granted a certificate of food safety eligibility.

Accordingly, the Department of Science & Technology and related sectors will take the next steps to issue certificates of eligibility to affix electronic stamps tracing the origin of Vinh oranges to households located in the Vinh orange geographical indication area in Tan Ky./.
