On the evening of September 9, Nghia (33 years old) drove a light yellow Lexus GX470 to pick up a group of friends to go out drinking and singing karaoke. On the way home, at about 2:00 a.m. on September 10, Nghia went in the wrong direction and crashed into a motorbike driven by Nguyen Hoang Long in front of the gate of the University of Construction. The strong impact caused the victim to be thrown dozens of meters away, dying on the spot. Leaving Long alone, Nghia left the scene and hid the motorbike.

Searching for the license plate provided by the people, through the traffic camera system, the police recorded before and after the traffic collision, this license plate was used by a light yellow Lexus GX470. However, this license plate was issued to a blue Zace car, registered in Ho Chi Minh City.

In addition to this detail, the investigation agency discovered that behind the car there was a sticker of an auto showroom. The detectives believed that this was most likely where the car went for maintenance or transaction, so they focused on this detail. However, the image of the sticker was very blurry, making it difficult to find information, so the investigation team had to screen nearly 20 showrooms in the city. Finally, the investigation team determined that the car had been to a garage in Cau Giay district for maintenance.

From the above clues, the detectives found out that the driver who caused the accident and then fled was Nghia. On September 12, Nghia went to Hai Ba Trung District Police to confess.

The Lexus was identified as a smuggled car.
