What should be noted when changing different types of oil for cars?

Changing too many types of engine oil for your car will not cause short-term effects but will be harmful in the long run.

Currently, the Vietnamese market distributes many types of engine oil such as: Shell, Total, Castrol, Kendall or Mobil, ... These engine oil brands are quite famous in the world, however, consumers should not only focus on buying the most famous oil but need to choose oil with parameters suitable for the engine they are using. For example, Ford gasoline cars use 5W30 oil while Ford diesel cars need 15W40 oil. The first 2 digits with the character "W" - Winter (winter) will indicate the viscosity measured at -180C and the last 2 digits indicate the viscosity when the oil is at 1000C. Oil parameters are measured by the American Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE).

In fact, using different types of engine oil, not the same brand or viscosity for the car is not a problem in theory. But in reality, changing many types of oil over a long period of time can cause some problems for the engine, making the car run less smoothly. So before changing to another engine oil, the car owner should pay attention to flushing the engine with a solution to remove all the old oil, then pour in the new engine oil. This way, the new engine will run smoother and last longer.

Another point worth noting is that older engines often use high viscosity oil while newer vehicles often use low viscosity oil. If you pump high viscosity oil into a new engine, when operating in cold mode (the vehicle has just started, the engine temperature is low), it is easy to cause insufficient lubrication problems, causing the oil to not be able to spread to all areas with small gaps. However, if the vehicle has been in operation for a long time, the gaps between the parts are often large, using high viscosity oil is relatively suitable, has the effect of increasing the tightness of the air filter, creating good hydrodynamic lubrication ability.

Experts say that car owners should change the oil after the car has run 3,000 - 5,000km or every 3 months. In addition, luxury cars often use high-quality oil, so the operating time is longer and the distance traveled is also longer.
