Taking advantage of parents' desire to train their children physically, some people use social networks to fake running competitions, then lure parents to register and then find ways to defraud and appropriate their property.

Hanoi City Police said that in recent years, Marathon races have become sports festivals for families.

Many parents want their children to have a healthy and beneficial playground to develop physically and mentally, so they register for the race to help their children practice.

Taking advantage of that psychology, some people have used social networks to fake running races, then lured parents to register and then tried to scam them.appropriation of property.

Recently, Ms. T (living in Hanoi) accessed an advertisement on the Facebook page “KIDS RUN - Marathon” about a running race for children aged 4-15 and their families.

This Facebook page regularly posts articles about the competition's prize structure such as: All gift costs for outstanding athletes will be used to add to the cost of the charity trip after the race ends, a race for the people, a race for the green forest...

Seeing that this was a good and useful playground for her child, Ms. T texted to register and was asked by the "Organizing Committee" to participate in the survey activity for parents, then she would be officially approved to join the general activity group of parents to interact and exchange.

When she joined the group, a "parent" asked her to perform a task to help the race sponsors increase product sales.

After 2 transfers with small amounts: 850 thousand VND, 3 million VND; she received the full amount back.

When the amount increased, Ms. T did not receive it back and was texted by the "fake parents" in the group to ask and discuss, "She also did not receive the money back, but after completing additional tasks, she received the full amount of both times."

Suspecting fraud, Ms. T asked the other parents to send ID photos. Because she found the ID photos trustworthy, she continued to transfer 7 times with a total amount of nearly 1 billion VND.

At this time, she could not withdraw money so she realized she was scammed and went to the police to report the incident.

To avoid fraud, Hanoi City Police recommends that people be careful when participating in social networks. Absolutely do not follow instructions to transfer money to any individual, organization and for any reason if the recipient's identity has not been accurately determined.

When detecting cases with signs of fraud, people need to immediately report to the nearest police agency./.
