Warning about impersonating police to defraud and appropriate property
On June 27, Hanoi City Police warned about impersonating officers of the Cyber Security and Crime Prevention Department using high technology to commit fraud and appropriate property.
Nowadays, the situation of making phone calls to scam and appropriate property is becoming more and more common. In particular, the trick is to use the phone to pretend to be from the police force to threaten weak-minded, gullible people, then "lead" them by the nose to transfer money into their accounts and then appropriate it.
Recently, a number of officials and residents in Hanoi received calls from subscribers claiming to be officials currently working at the Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention, Hanoi City Police. The content of the call informed that people had committed fraud and appropriated property from many people in Hanoi City and other provinces and cities across the country. At the same time, the caller was asked to provide additional personal information and information related to bank accounts.

This is a trick of impersonating a police officer with the aim of defrauding and appropriating property or personal information for other illegal acts. The Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention Department of Hanoi City Police recommends that people be vigilant against strange phone numbers, do not provide personal information, and do not follow any instructions from calls impersonating law enforcement agencies.
When there is a request to work, provide information, documents or support the fight against crime, the police agency in general or the Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention, Hanoi City Police in particular, all do it by sending an Invitation or Summons directly to the people to come to the office to work, instead of sending officers to call and contact the people to request information as above.
