Police searched the houses of two former Chairmen of Da Nang City and were prosecuted.

At 9:00 a.m. on April 18, the Ministry of Public Security's Investigation Police Agency conducted a search warrant at Mr. Tran Van Minh's house on Ly Thuong Kiet Street, Hai Chau District, Da Nang City.

At the same time as Mr. Minh's house was being searched, the house of Mr. Van Huu Chien, former Chairman of Da Nang City from 2011 to 2015, on Ba Dinh Street, Hai Chau District, was also being searched.

Representatives of the residential group where Mr. Chien's family resided were invited by the police to witness the search.

Hai Chau District Police were mobilized to ensure security and order outside Mr. Minh and Mr. Chien's house so that the search could take place safely.

Previously, on the evening of April 17, dozens of reporters were also present at Mr. Minh's house when they heard that he had been prosecuted and detained by the Ministry of Public Security that same afternoon.

Mr. Tran Van Minh, born in 1955, residing in Hai Chau district, Da Nang city, former chairman of Da Nang city People's Committee for the 2006-2011 term.

Mr. Minh was arrested for the crime of "Violating regulations on management and use of state assets causing loss and waste" as prescribed in Article 219 of the 2015 Penal Code and "Violating State regulations on land management" as prescribed in Article 229 of the 2015 Penal Code.

In addition to Mr. Minh, the Ministry of Public Security's Investigation Police Agency also issued a decision to prosecute and impose a house arrest order on Mr. Van Huu Chien.

The Ministry of Public Security has prosecuted and imposed a ban on Mr. Chien from leaving his place of residence for the acts of "Violating regulations on management and use of state assets causing loss and waste" prescribed in Article 219 of the 2015 Penal Code and "Violating state regulations on land management" prescribed in Article 229 of the 2015 Penal Code.
