Malaysian police rescue a Vietnamese woman from sexual exploitation

According to the New Straits Times on March 6, Malaysian police rescued seven foreign women, including six Chinese women and one Vietnamese woman, during a raid at an entertainment establishment in the capital Kuala Lumpur.

City police Criminal Investigation Department chief Zainuddin Ahmad said police conducted a surprise search of the premises on Imbi Street at 1:30 a.m. on March 5 after discovering prostitution activities there.

He said the women were believed to be victims of sexual exploitation. Checks showed that all of them, aged between 25 and 35, had been brought into Malaysia on family visit passports and student visas.

Police also arrested a 47-year-old manager and a 61-year-old woman believed to have run the business.

The case is being investigated under Section 12 of the Prevention of Trafficking in Persons and Migration Act 2007 for trafficking of persons into Malaysia for the purpose of exploitation./
