Police in Washington shot dead an African American
An African-American man was shot and killed by police in Washington, the Metropolitan Police Department announced Wednesday. "A gun was recovered at the scene," police said in a brief statement.
Washington Police Chief Peter Newsham later told reporters that the shooting took place near the Anacostia military base in the capital.
Officers approached a car they suspected had a gun inside. Several people inside the car jumped out and ran away. At that point, an officer shot a man who was running away. The man was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead. “We believe the suspect was armed at the time,” Newsham said.
