The Nghe An couple promises to 'make a name for themselves' at Tuyet Dinh Song Ca 2023

Hoang Nhu Quynh and Vo Phuong Thuy are currently vocal music students at the Vietnam National Academy of Music. Nhu Quynh pursues folk music, Phuong Thuy studies chamber music. Coming to the 2023 Tuyet Dinh Song Ca competition, the two girls from Nghe An had a wonderful combination. Surpassing many couples, Nhu Quynh and Phuong Thuy confidently entered the "Tuyet Dinh Song Ca" Final with exciting qualifying rounds.

In the knockout round of the recently aired Tuyet Dinh Song Ca 2023 program, the contestant couple Hoang Nhu Quynh - Vo Phuong Thuy made a special impression on the judges and the audience. The ancient Cheo song "Dao Lieu" is familiar to many people, but through the performance of the two Gen Z female singers, it is very sweet, gentle, yet youthful and fresh. Along with their singing voices, the two girls also conquered the audience with their beautiful and charming appearance, bringing many emotions to the viewers.

Right after Hoang Nhu Quynh and Phuong Thuy finished their performance of “Dao Lieu”, singer Hien Thuc, who was sitting in the “hot seat” of the judges, immediately exclaimed: “Not only beautiful but also sings well. When you sing, combined with the harmony of this song, it is very modern yet gentle and melodious. 10 points!”. Judge Cam Ly praised: “You two are very charming”. Musician Minh Vy commented: “I praise you two for singing in perfect harmony”.

Director Hoang Nhat Nam shared that the performance of Hoang Nhu Quynh - Phuong Thuy reminded him of his childhood. He loved the singers on the radio, in Tet programs. They sounded very magical and fairy-like...

“Phuong Thuy and Nhu Quynh seem to have a similar appearance and voice. In the last song, the two of them juggled each other wonderfully. In terms of performance, they were like two beautiful ladies in a painting, creating more beauty for the audience,” the male director said, concluding: “Overall, it was a very cute performance.” Meanwhile, MC Nguyen Khang, in his role as the program’s host, also evaluated the two female singers as “a gentle, graceful, and simple couple.”

With the performance "Peach Blossom", the two female singers Hoang Nhu Quynh - Phuong Thuy won tickets to go straight to the next round of the Tuyet Dinh Song Ca 2023 competition. The initial victory of Hoang Nhu Quynh and Phuong Thuy made many people curious about these two beautiful girls who sing well.

Interestingly, not only do they harmonize well on stage, in real life, Hoang Nhu Quynh and Phuong Thuy also have many similarities. The two girls were both born in 1998, from the same mountainous district of Tan Ky (Nghe An), and are currently university students in the Vocal Music Department, Vietnam National Academy of Music. In particular, the two girls share the same passion and determination to pursue folk and lyrical music.

However, Hoang Nhu Quynh and Phuong Thuy have two completely different voices. While Hoang Nhu Quynh has a mellow, Central Vietnamese singing style, Phuong Thuy is a bit softer and gentler. In terms of vocal technique, they are also different in the way they pronounce words and handle the work. However, when singing a duet, the two female singers know how to combine well, always trying to sing in the most perfect way so that the audience can feel the two voices harmonizing as one.

“We have been close friends for 8 years now, and we have a spiritual connection - that is the most important thing. It is this connection that has helped us complement each other a lot when singing and performing, from the notes to the stage performance. Just by looking into each other's eyes, each of us already knows how we should continue singing,” Hoang Nhu Quynh shared.

Sharing more about their love for folk music, the two young female singers said: As children of Nghe An - the cradle of traditional folk music, their souls were imbued with lullabies and songs from their grandmothers and mothers since they were very young. Therefore, it can be said that folk music has been in everyone's blood since childhood. When they grew up and learned more, they found this music genre very good, so they became more passionate and determined to pursue it, even though no one in their family was active in the arts.

From the Central region, two young girls with only their sincere voices and pure, innocent love for folk music packed their bags and went to Hanoi, passing the entrance exam to the largest music training center in the country, the Vietnam National Academy of Music. Here, Hoang Nhu Quynh was lucky to study with Singer - Doctor of Music Tan Nhan, and Vo Phuong Thuy was guided by Meritorious Artist Phuc Tiep. The teachers, who were also talented artists, not only imparted knowledge and vocal techniques but also added passion, enthusiasm and confidence to help the two girls become more steadfast on the long journey.

Before coming to the Tuyet Dinh Song Ca 2023 contest, the two singers from Nghe An had participated in a number of music competitions and had initial successes. Hoang Nhu Quynh won the Third Prize of the Folk Star Competition (2019) and the Second Prize of Sao Mai Nghe An 2022. As for Vo Phuong Thuy, she won the Encouragement Prize of Sao Mai Nghe An 2022 and was the Runner-up of the Song Thuong Singing Competition 2021 (organized by Bac Giang province). Currently, the two female singers born in 1998 are the outstanding contestants of the Tuyet Dinh Song Ca 2023 program, expected by the audience and judges to "make a name for themselves" in this widely-covered music competition.
