In preparation for the 2018 football tournaments, yesterday afternoon (January 19) in Hanoi, leaders of Tien Phong Newspaper and Vietnam Professional Football Joint Stock Company (VPF) met to discuss and agree on the plan to organize the 2017 National Super Cup.

Accordingly, the 2017 National Super Cup match will be held at Hang Day Stadium on February 24 (ie January 9 of the Lunar calendar), between the 2017 V.League champion Quang Nam and the 2017 National Cup champion Song Lam Nghe An. This is also the opening match for the new 2018 season.

Initially, the Organizing Committee considered choosing Vinh Stadium as the venue to meet the audience's enjoyment needs, but in the end, the neutral stadium, Hang Day Stadium, was chosen.

Hang Day Stadium has always been a favorite destination for Nghe An fans in the North, with tens of thousands of Nghe An people coming to each match. However, the 2017 National Super Cup match took place on the 9th day of Tet, when a large number of SLNA fans, who were students, had not yet left for the capital.

In the National Super Cup match, according to the rules, the two teams will compete for 90 minutes, if the score is tied, there will be a penalty shootout to determine the winner of the Super Cup without extra time. The winning team will receive a trophy, a plaque, medals and a prize worth 300 million VND, the losing team will receive 200 million VND.

The National Super Cup title was established in 1999. After 18 editions, Song Lam Nghe An and Binh Duong Clubs are the two most successful teams with 4 Super Cup wins. Hoang Anh Gia Lai is the team that has won the Super Cup twice.

Up to now, 11 teams have been honored with this noble title, including: The Cong, Song Lam Nghe An, Hoang Anh Gia Lai, Hai Phong, Dong Tam Long An, Becamex Binh Duong, Lam Son Thanh Hoa, Hanoi T&T, SHB Da Nang, TV Ninh Binh and most recently Than Quang Ninh./.
