Celta Vigo failed to beat Alaves in the first leg of the King's Cup semi-final

February 3, 2017 06:57

Celta Vigo, who eliminated Real Madrid in the quarter-finals, were at a disadvantage when they were held to a 0-0 draw by Alaves in the first leg of the semi-final.

Celta Vigo had psychological problems right from the first half of the first leg on the evening of February 2. If it weren't for the talent of goalkeeper Sergio Alvarez, the home team could have paid the price after Manu Garcia's finish.

Celta Vigo only got the better of the second half but failed to capitalise on their chances. Alaves goalkeeper Fernando Pacheco was as good as Alvarez when he blocked Iago Aspas' shot. The visitors also escaped with another Aspas shot and aPablo Hernandez, all thanks to the goal.

The draw in the first leg away from home could be a slight advantage for Alaves, who will play at home in the return leg next week.

The winner of the Alaves - Celta Vigo match will advance to the final against the winner of the Barca - Atletico Madrid match. In the first leg of the semi-final, Barca won 2-1 at Atletico's home ground.

Celta Vigo and Alaves have never won the Copa del Rey. Alaves are even in the semi-finals for the first time. Meanwhile, Barca hold the record of 28 titles.
