Portrait of the perpetrator who threw acid at a female student for only 1 million VND

Police determined that the acid attack on a female student in Ho Chi Minh City was due to a homosexual jealousy conflict.

On the afternoon of April 1, Go Vap District Police (HCMC) announced that they had arrested two more suspects in the case of a female student HTTTH (20 years old, from Dak Lak) who was blinded in one eye by acid and TNAD (21 years old, from Binh Thuan) who was injured.

Subject Quyen, is believed to be the ringleader of the acid attack on the female student.

Previously, the police arrested Pham Hoang Long (19 years old, from Binh Thuan). The two masterminds who were just caught were Truong Thi Kieu Quyen (21 years old) and Nguyen Dinh Thanh Tam (20 years old, both from Binh Thuan). Initially, the police determined that this was a case stemming from jealousy in a homosexual relationship.

At the investigation agency, the subjects all admitted to being the perpetrators involved in the acid attack that left one person blind.

Accordingly, Quyen had a homosexual relationship with D. when she was in high school in her hometown. When she went to Ho Chi Minh City to study college, the two continued to rent a room together. After a while, in July 2015, D.'s family found out and forbade it. After that, Quyen moved out and D. stayed with H. During this time, Quyen had another boyfriend, Tam.

Thinking that H. was the one who “destroyed her happiness”, Quyen had the intention of revenge. Quyen discussed with Tam a plan to throw acid on H. and D.. The two hired Long to directly throw acid on them for 1 million VND. After that, Long rented a motorbike to buy 3 liters of diluted acid at Kim Bien market and 0.5 liters of concentrated acid at To Hien Thanh street (District 10) to mix together to commit the crime.

At noon on March 30, Tam drove a motorbike carrying Long, following H. and D.. When the two reached Quang Trung Street (near Cho Cau Bridge, Go Vap District), Tam overtook the motorbike, leaving Long sitting behind to throw acid on the two female students and then escape.

At the investigation agency, female student D. also said that 3 weeks ago, she and H. were walking home from school when two young men on a motorbike revved their engines and knocked them off their bikes. Both fell to the road but suffered only minor injuries.

Currently, H. is being treated at Cho Ray Hospital, D. was slightly injured and has been discharged. Doctors at Cho Ray Hospital determined that H.'s left eye has suffered necrosis and cannot be restored, with a prognosis of blindness.
