(Baonghean.vn) - Getting rich on the homeland is the dream of many people, but not everyone is determined enough and sometimes needs a little "recklessness". That is what the young man Tran Khac Tham (1993) in Nam Phuc commune, Nam Dan district is determined to do on the land of his birth.

We visited Tham’s cucumber growing model using Israeli technology right in the middle of the first harvest season. The 25-year-old young man excitedly introduced to the guests the initial successes of the model in Uncle Ho’s homeland.

The model of growing melons using Israeli technology is no longer a new thing in Nam Dan, Nghe An. However, daring to invest in bringing the model of growing cucumbers using Israeli technology to Nam Phuc commune - a low-lying area often affected by natural disasters and floods like Tran Khac Tham is a different story.

Graduated from the Faculty of Information Technology, Vinh University, unlike his peers looking for a stable office job, Tham returned to his hometown to "farm".

In fact, 7 years ago, while still in school, this young man had the intention of returning to his homeland after graduation and working on a VAC farm. However, at that time, because he had not been exposed to much information, he had not thought about growing plants using high technology.

It was not until 4 years ago, by chance, while chatting online with friends who were studying in Israel and Japan, that Tham suddenly realized that tomatoes and cucumbers grown in greenhouses were very good and had high yields.

“At that time, I wondered why my hometown did not apply this technology to achieve both high productivity and safety. And the idea of growing trees using Israeli technology also began to take shape from here,” Tham said.

After graduating, Tham started to visit and learn more about Israeli technology application models in Da Lat, Saigon, Da Nang and models in the province to implement his ideas.

“At first, my parents and friends did not support me when I said I wanted to build an Israeli technology model. The reason is that Nam Phuc is a low-lying area, often flooded and stormy, so we have to face many risks. Next, the materials for the greenhouse are expensive, we have to order from far away, sometimes we have to bring them from abroad” - Tham confided. But luckily, after some persuasion, Tham's family decided to follow their son's advice.

In August 2017, Tham began renting small plots of land, and around September and October 2017, he hired workers to build a factory, treat the land, and water resources on an area of 1,000 square meters. It was not until around the 25th of the 12th lunar month, when everyone began preparing for Tet, that Tham and his family were able to plant the first crop and have recently harvested.

Harvesting the first heavy crop of cucumbers, Tham said: “Seeing the results now, I feel less worried. At first, whenever a young plant died of disease, I was so worried that I couldn’t eat or sleep. Because to have the initial investment of 550 million VND, my family had to mortgage our red book to borrow from the bank.”

Also present at the model, Mr. Tran Khac Quyen - Tham's father confided that he was born into a farming family and sent his son to university to help him escape the life of "selling his face to the ground and his back to the sky", wanting him to develop and succeed. Seeing his son return, he was truly happy because he had the will to get rich in his homeland, but when he learned that his son was pursuing a farming career, he was a bit worried. Worried about whether his son could endure the hardships of farming, worried about whether the model would be successful or not.

But the initial positive results made his family feel less worried and happy for their son, even though they knew the road ahead would be full of hardships. "Only when we started working with our son did we realize that today, if we want to get rich in agriculture, we have to apply science, and we cannot depend on the weather like in the past," Mr. Quyen said honestly.

Currently, in the middle of the season, Tham's model produces more than 200 kilograms of melons per day. The melon products meet most of the criteria for clean products such as no pesticide residue, grown using microbial fertilizers, ensuring environmental safety... Realizing the initial success of the melon model, many people in and outside the region have come to visit and learn.

Always welcoming people to come and learn, Tham shared that creating this model is first of all to fulfill his own dream, but besides that, he also wants people to see the good and the benefits to follow. More importantly, through this, this 25-year-old man also wants clean products to be accessible and serve the farmers with muddy hands and feet in all the countryside.
