Due to inhaling toxic fumes suspected to be from coral, six people in one family had difficulty breathing, coughed, had fever, and blurred vision to the point of having to be hospitalized.

When his family fell ill last week, Chris Matthews thought they just had the flu. But the real culprit was likely the fish tank.

According toFox NewsThe day before the incident, Matthews cleaned the fish tank and cleaned everything one by one. After finishing, he closed the door and went to sleep. The next morning, all six members of his family suddenly had difficulty breathing, cough, fever, fatigue, and blurred vision.

At first, Matthews blamed the flu, but strangely enough, both of his dogs also showed similar symptoms. Finally, Matthews remembered the five-fingered corals in his aquarium. The 27-year-old deduced that while cleaning, he accidentally rubbed the corals, releasing palytoxin.

According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, palytoxin is the second most dangerous natural poison in the world. They easily penetrate the body through the skin, mouth and respiratory tract.

To ensure safety, Matthews called the local police to intervene. The rescue team quickly arrived and removed all the coral poison from the house. The Matthews family was also taken to the hospital, where doctors confirmed they had inhaled toxic fumes and would have been in serious trouble if they had stayed home another night.

From his terrifying experience, Matthews wants to warn everyone who has a fish tank with coral at home. However, on social networks, some opinions said that the culprit could not be five-fingered coral because they do not contain palytoxin, but Matthews's fish tank most likely contained zoanthids and palythoas corals, two beautiful but extremely poisonous marine creatures./.
