Man in Ky Son sentenced to prison for cutting down 5 po mu trees
(Baonghean.vn) - The first instance trial of defendant Xong Chong Go (born in 1976), residing in Buoc Mu village, Na Ngoi commune, Ky Son district, for the crime of "Violating regulations on forest exploitation and protection" was opened on the morning of October 31.
According to the case, from late November to mid-December 2016, Xong Chong Go brought a chainsaw, hammer and some other tools into the protected forest area of Lot 1, Section 7, Sub-area 490 in Na Ngoi Commune to exploit wood. Here, Go cut down 5 po mu trees, then sawed them into panels and used a motorbike to transport them home to hide. Authorities determined that the amount of wood that Xong Chong Go exploited was 12,579m3.

After knowing that his actions were discovered, Xong Chong Go fled to Laos and was arrested on July 14, 2023.
At the trial, the Trial Panel determined that the defendant's actions were dangerous to society, damaged forest resources, caused ecological imbalance, and affected the sustainable and stable development of the environment, so they sentenced Xong Chong Go to 8 months in prison.
