Europe worried about Russia's attack on Ukraine's military infrastructure
(Baonghean.vn) - According to Ria Novosti, British analyst Alexander Merkouris said that there are signs of anxiety in the European Union, after missile attacks by the Russian Aerospace Forces caused heavy damage to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

"Russia has caused huge damage to Ukraine's military infrastructure with its attacks. The West created a perfect air defense system for Kiev, but this system was also destroyed. Russia has overloaded the US and European air defense systems with its airstrikes. We see signs of anxiety, when the European Union starts thinking about producing new Patriot air defense systems," said Merkouris.
According to Mercouris, Russia has shown that advanced Western missile defense systems are much more vulnerable than previously thought.
Meanwhile, Colonel Oleg Starikov of the Armed Forces of Ukraine shared his opinion on the Telegram channel: "Russia is organizing an attack with the goal of knocking down our missiles before Russian air defense missile systems, and at the same time starting a "hunt" for our air defense systems to destroy them."
According to Ukrainian Colonel Starikov, in addition to Ukrainian air defense facilities, the main targets of the attack from Russia were infrastructure facilities and military bases of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Colonel Starikov called Moscow's attack a classic air campaign, aimed at wearing down Ukraine's air defenses, as aid to Kiev slowed and the West began discussing a negotiated way out of the Ukrainian conflict.
According to Ria Novosti, this Russian raid began on December 29, 2023. Over the past week, the Russian Defense Ministry said that 50 raids and one major attack were carried out on the territory of Ukraine using precision weapons and drones. The targets were military-industrial complexes, military airports, weapons depots, as well as military sites.
Analysts say the ultimate goal of Russia's offensive appears to be to exhaust Ukraine's air defense resources, such as NASAMS and Patriot missiles, which are supported by the West. Notably, Moscow is deploying this tactic at a time when the US and the European Union have begun to cut military aid to Kiev. This could lead to a scenario where Ukraine may no longer have any air defense "shields" in the near future./.
