Chelsea to play Real in Champions League quarter-finals; Barca to meet German club in Europa League quarter-finals
(Baonghean.vn) - Chelsea will play Real, while Man City will face Atletico in the quarter-finals of the 2021-2022 Champions League. Meanwhile, Xavi and his team drew an easy draw when they faced Eintracht Frankfurt instead of facing West Ham, Leipzig or Atalanta.
Chelsea vs Real in Champions League quarter-finals
The quarter-finals feature six clubs from England and Spain, but none of the games are contested between the same country. What fans were hoping for happened was that there were two matches between the two countries. Chelsea vs Real Madrid and Man City vs Atletico Madrid are of course the focus of the quarter-finals, as they represent the powerhouses of the Premier League and La Liga.
Real will have the chance to get revenge on Chelsea, when the Spanish royal club was eliminated by this opponent in the semi-finals last season with a score of 3-1. Real is stronger this season, after eliminating PSG in the round of 16 with a final score of 3-2. Karim Benzema is in good form, while Vinicius Junior is increasingly mature. Real's problem is that they will have to overcome history, having never won against Chelsea in 5 matches.

Carlo Ancelotti will face his former club, while Mateo Kovacic and Marcos Alonso will also be reunited with Real. Chelsea and Real have not met in the Champions League until 2021, but they have faced each other in both of the last two seasons.
The other England-Spain tie is between Man City and Atletico Madrid. Curiously, the two clubs have never met, despite often going deep in the competition over the past 10 years. Diego Simeone's men will play the first leg in Manchester, where they beat Man Utd 2-1 on aggregate in the round of 16. This tie also celebrates the two schools of football, attacking and defensive.

The other two quarter-finalists have an easier draw. Bayern will only face Villarreal, who eliminated Juventus in the round of 16, while Liverpool will face Benfica. Bayern won both of their previous matches against Villarreal, in the 2011 Champions League group stage. Liverpool beat Benfica 5-3 on aggregate in the 2010 Europa League quarter-finals. Liverpool will likely meet Bayern in the semi-finals, promising a feast of attacking football.
The first leg of the quarter-finals will be played on 5 and 6 April, with the return legs a week later. The first leg of the semi-finals will be played on 26 and 27 April, with the return legs a week later. The final will be played at the Stade de France in Paris on 28 May.
Barca to meet German club in Europa League quarter-finals
Of the quarter-finalists, Frankfurt are the only club to have won the Europa League or its predecessor, the UEFA Cup, in 1979-80. However, they are currently ninth in the Bundesliga. In the round of 16, Frankfurt beat another La Liga side, Real Betis, 3-2 on aggregate.

The second German team to reach the quarter-finals, RB Leipzig, will face Atalanta (Italy). This is a match between two clubs in a similar situation to Barca, who were relegated to the Europa League after finishing third in their Champions League group. Leipzig will not have to play in the round of 16 because their opponents - Spartak Moscow - were eliminated from the tournament by UEFA as a punishment for Russia's conflict with Ukraine.
The first leg of the Europa League quarter-finals will be played on April 7 and the second leg will be played a week later. The semi-finals will be held on April 28 and May 5, respectively. The final will be played on May 18 at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan stadium in Seville, Spain.
Barca are considered the number one candidate for the championship despite never having won the Europa League. Fans of the Catalan team have more faith in that when witnessing the strong revival of the home team. Barca are unbeaten in 11 matches and determined to win the first title under Xavi.
Following the Europa League draw, UEFA has also held the Europa Conference League quarter-final draw. The third-tier European competition will see Premier League club Leicester face off against PSV Eindhoven, who are battling it out for the Dutch title with Ajax.
Another notable quarter-final tie is the rematch between AS Roma and Bodo/Glimt. In the group stage, the Norwegian club handed Jose Mourinho the heaviest defeat of his European Cup managerial career, a 6-1 defeat. In the return leg at home, Roma needed a late goal from defender Roger Ibanez to draw 2-2 with Bodo/Glimt.
PSV's fellow countrymen Feyenoord face Czech side Slavia Prague while Marseille take on Greek side PAOK. The Conference League quarter-finals and semi-finals are on the same day as the Europa League quarter-finals and semi-finals. But the final will be played on 25 May at the Arena Kombetare in Albania.
