A young man was hacked 15 times because he thought he had beaten him in the past.

From September 29 to October 3, the Provincial People's Court opened a criminal trial to try the murder case against Pham Duc Ben (born in 1985, residing in Chau Nga commune, Quy Chau district).

During the interrogation and debate session on September 29, Ben's criminal behavior was clarified as follows: On the evening of May 6, 2017, Ben went to the construction site guardhouse near his house to drink alcohol with two young men. At this time, Lu Van Thuong (born 2001, residing in Chau Binh commune, Quy Chau district) had hung a mosquito net and covered himself with a blanket to sleep.

Around 10pm, two young men drank with Ben, one went upstairs to sleep, the other went frog hunting, Ben lay down on the wooden bench to sleep next to Thuong.

Remembering the day of Lunar New Year when he was chased and beaten by a group of young men from Chau Binh commune, Ben thought that Thuong was involved so he planned to take revenge. Ben got up, took a knife, aimed it at Thuong's head and body, and slashed repeatedly.

Suddenly slashed, the victim had no time to react. Ben continued to cover the victim with a blanket and mercilessly stabbed.

Discovered by Thuong’s co-workers, Ben left. A moment later, Ben returned to the shack and declared he would “kill” Thuong. After being stopped by everyone, Ben went home to sleep.

Lu Van Thuong was taken to the emergency room with 15 wounds on his head, thighs, and calves. The medical examination showed that Lu Van Thuong suffered a 44% health loss. Ben was arrested and charged with "Murder".

At the trial, Ben said he did not intend to take the victim's life. Because he thought Thuong was part of a group of Chau Binh youths who beat him during Tet, Ben took revenge, with the intention of intimidating them.

Considering that the defendant unjustly violated the life and health of another person, the crime was especially serious, the victim did not die because it was beyond the defendant's subjective consciousness... therefore, on the morning of October 3, the People's Court sentenced Pham Duc Ben to 13 years in prison, forcing the defendant to compensate the victim more than 90 million VND./.
